A conference, focusing on the government, politics and society of Scotland, is being jointly organised by the University of the West of Scotland, Caledonian University and the University of Glasgow.  This event will be held in Glasgow at the city centre campus of Caledonian University, June 18th-19th 2009.

Devolution was a seminal but not a singular event in British politics, and the consequences are still unfolding.  In many respects, Scotland, alongside the rest of the United Kingdom, has undergone significant social, political and constitutional change – and ten years on is the perfect time to allow us to reflect and consider the political and social ramifications.

The conference organisers welcome submissions on any aspect of such change, general or specific, as well as particularly encouraging papers or panels that focus on the following themes:

•    Devolution in the UK
•    Nationalism and national identity
•    Discourse and Politics
•    Scotland and Europe
•    Elections and party politics
•    Governance, administration and public policy
•    Media and politics
•    The politics of citizenship
•    Religion and politics

Panel proposals, of up to three papers and a discussant, should be submitted by December 19th 2008.  Individuals wishing to submit individual papers proposals should do so by March 2nd 2009.  Proposals should include panel/paper titles, an abstract of approximately 250 words per paper, institutional affiliation/position, email and postal address. We also welcome volunteers for the positions of chairs and discussants.   For further information, or to submit an abstract, please email murray.leith@uws.ac.uk
